- Clive Woods was a local historian, and leading campaigner for the preservation of Saltaire's heritage. He sadly died in 2007, but his large and diverse collection reflects his interests in everything to do with Saltaire.

A1-036: The Great Yorkshire Llama Facsimile copy of 'Household Words' (Nov. 27th 1852) with an article entitled 'The Great Yorkshire Llama'. Household Words was a weekly magazine edited by Charles Dickens. The article tells a story of how Titus Salt allegedley discovered surplus alpaca wool in 1836 and started experimenting with it to produce cloth. This led to a very successful textile business and, as the article was being written, the construction of a large new mill in what was to become Saltaire.
